Catch-22

Catch-22 is an upcoming one-button game that is going to release on cross-platform including iOS and Facebook in April 2012. Just as the title suggests, the game will puts you in a no-win situation, for you need to avoid your previous self and constantly outsmart yourself.

Simple idea, sophisticated game. The entire gameplay screen consists of one red planet in the center, orbited by many auto-generated small white balls and two bigger spheres of different color. Players need to control one sphere to collect the small white balls. When all the white balls are gathered, it’s the other player (your own jumping)’s turn. Next around, more challenging for sure, stirs up the gameplay, for players this time not only need to collect white balls but also have to evade your previous run, which continuously orbits along the original trace. Turns are switched back and forth until you finally crash into your previous self.

Obviously, it features simple one-click gameplay. Yet it will, as its devs Mango Down describes, be both ‘relaxing and frustrating’. It’s simple and original, and it’s made in 2 days during the Global Game Jam 2012, Amsterdam, and crowned the winner of that national competition in the Netherlands.
