Disney Animal Kingdom Explorers
  • Release Date: April, 2012
  • Publisher: Playdom
  • Developer: Playdom
  • Genre: HOG
  • Official Site

Playdom seems working to solidify its position in the Hidden Object Game field. As its second HOG titled Blackwood & Bell Mysteries was released not long ago, Playdom is now partnered with Disneynature in preparation for the third HOG on Facebook, that is, Disney Animal Kingdom Explorers.

Disney Animal Kingdom Explorers

No more time traveling or case solving, Disney Animal Kingdom Explorers will take players into the true nature, a world for animals of all species. In it, players will join the Global Wildlife Research team, in which experts will guide them to build and nurture own wildlife preserve and meanwhile explore exotic wilderness or preserve habitats to search for animals. Some of the playable scenes are inspired by the actual Disney Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida; hence the title. Note that, preserve-building takes on the realistic style instead of that in typical social zoo games with tourists-attracting purpose; and it’s same to the playable scenes and animals within. So simply, no Simba or Baloo; and no Jungle Book.

Even from existing Gardens of Time and Blackwood & Bell, Playdom has won the reputation for combining educational elements into gameplay. Now with this new animal-themed game, the dev delves deeper in the direction. Not only is the gameplay packed with info about the various creatures, ecologically-minded gameplay is rendered in the core mechanics. To create preserves for certain animals, you need to consider its actual living conditions in nature; and to score high in a scene, you will want to make sure that you are not baffled by ‘never hearing about that creature’ in the first place. However, most will surely be stuck by one or two unfamiliar creatures. Say, do you know Caecilians or Hadada Ibis?

If you don’t have the slightest idea about what are they, don’t google and just head to the Facebook page of the game – play a preview scene in the demo and meet those two animals and a handful of others. Chameleon, dung beetle, wild dog, hornbill, wild ass, gecko, bongo, caecilians, etc. – familiar with some while ignorant of the rest. As always, hints of four types that circle objects, highlight them, change their color or reveal all, are there to help, with cool-down time. And each round is scored based on the base score and chain/time/skill bonuses.

Love animals and love hidden object games? Let’s wait for Disney Animal Kingdom Explorers. It should be coming in April.
