Neverwinter is an upcoming free-to-play MMORPG from Cryptic Studios which is scheduled to release at Q4, 2012. Neverwinter is originally known as a fictional city from Dungeons & Dragons Forgotten Realms Campaign setting, and will be a game heavily inspired by that fantasy RPG widely acknowledged as the beginning of the modern role-playing game.

It’s a reborn Neverwinter out of ashes. Background is just set a hundred years after the Spellplague devoured the city when it has been restored much of its former glory by humans, dwarves and elves. But evil certainly has its scheme. Out of conflict comes the story.

It’s just a beginning when you set foot in the perilous D&D universe for adventure. You can actually create adventures yourself with the tools offered in the Foundry system. Plan the layout of your works, let there be ancient ruins, dungeons, castles, woods, NPC villages and everything in between, breathe life into conjured-up world with living creatures, and tell a good story. It’s ideal that you can materialize your imagined adventure; and it remains to see how effectively those tools can be.

Player-generated adventures will add new layers of depth and variety to gameplay while bring a curious uncertainty. Play-build-share is not new (Minecraft to be the first that crosses the mind) but seems like a new trend (to think about Brick Force and The Supernauts). How well does it suit fantasy role-playing Neverwinter? We keep our eyes peeled.
