If you like monster collection games like Pokemon, you may be happy to know that Outernauts, described as a sci-fi Pokemon that combines role-playing, strategy and social elements, is in closed beta now and slated to release in Facebook this summer.

Outernauts

Despite the social platform of Facebook, game developers aims to make the debut social title a core game. Players in it will create and customize their Outernauts, exploring the expansive galaxy, taking quests to battle space pirates, and capture a large collection of alien animals along the way. An in-depth storyline, elaborate quest system and Insomniac style of humor are promised to light up the entire gameplay.

“A Pokemon in space” mainly comes from the monster collection portion. Differently, however, Outernauts features 3vs.3 turn-based combat rich in tactics with hundreds of monster abilities in the list. Players need to know the pros and cons of monster abilities so that they can come up with the correct plan and deployment.

Being on a social platform, it’s certainly not a single-player game. Players in Outernauts are able to connect to everyone inside the game, challenging each other or grouping-up to explore dungeons. It retains the traditional PvP as well as leaderboard, but also adds a unique asynchronous multiplayer mode that allows player to farm dungeons with friends but at each’s own pace. A player can clear one section of a dungeon at a time, and his/her teammates can just do their bits, continuing without necessity of confronting the same enemies eliminated.

As in most Facebook games, players can only go as far as the Energy allows in the game. Energy drains with every action and refills over time. And the instant full-charge is purchasable with real money. Not limited to energy refills, real money also gets players easy access to hard-earned materials and edges in battle and progress.

Outernauts sounds like a game built on proven concept and added some nice tweaks in certain aspect. How will the social gaming debut of the console game expert Insomniac Games turn out? Let’ wait for its summer release.
